PJ Harvey – “Man-Size”

Sometimes PJ Harvey makes me wish I could be a woman who beats men.

Unjustly Overlooked – Tarsem’s “The Fall”

Tarsem Singh is someone you are familiar with even if you don’t recognize his name.  He directed the music video for R.E.M.’s “Losing My Religion”, a batch of head-scratching avant-garde commercials for Levi’s, and that J. Lo horror flick “The Cell”.  Last year, with the help of David Fincher and Spike Jonze, he released the ridiculously ambitious “The Fall” to a generally pretty muted response.  The movie is not perfect, the plot becomes arguably too self-important, but as a fantasy epic it does everything that I could ask for.  The visuals are as stunning as anything I’ve seen since “Pan’s Labyrinth”, and the movie’s tone also reminded me, at times, of “Holy Mountain”, “Brazil”, and “The Thief of Baghdad”.
